If you are looking for a way to Save Money on Energy Bills, and Increase the Comfort Level of your home, Radiant Barrier is the solution! Use Perforated RB on top of attic insulation RB stapled to the bottom of roof joists keeps your whole attic cooler. * Double Sided (Aluminum on both sides) for maximum efficiency * Heavy Duty, No-Tear material (holds staples) * Reflects 97% of radiant heat * Typically pays back within a year and saves for a lifetime * Class A and Class 1 fire rating * Does not mildew and resist pest nesting * Millions of uses - attics, walls, floors, crawl spaces, house wrap, metal buildings, etc... * Available as Perforated or Non-Perforated (Vapor Barrier) Radiation is one of the biggest methods of heat lost or gained by your home. Aluminum Foil based Radiant Barriers block up to 97% of this heat transfer. I've installed radiant barrier in many homes including my own with very positive results. It can be installed in the attic, basement, crawl spaces, floors or wherever heat transfer is unwanted. Install it with an air space on the both sides for maximum benefit. It is easy to install, simply unroll and staple it in place. Studies have shown pay back of less than one year when you install it yourself, and it saves you money year after year in both summer and winter. In the north, simply roll the perforated type out over your existing attic, wall and floor insulation to dramatically reduce the heat lost through your ceiling, walls and floor. So what's the difference in their residential grades and our industrial grade? Watch the video below... Small (315 KB) Medium (900 KB) Large (2 MB) Different Grades of Radiant Barrier As with many products, Radiant Barrier comes in different grades of material. The primary difference in is the strength of the inner lining. Residential and Commercial grades are made with a directional scrim, while the Industrial Grades are generally made with a poly-woven fabric similar to a plastic tarp. Most radiant barrier products you would find at local hardware stores is the residential grade material. They are not as strong as the industrial grade, but typically have the same thermal performance. The price of the material is sometimes a good indication of which grade it is. A Little Physics - Double Sided RB This Industrial Strength Radiant Barrier is much stronger than the residential or commercial grades. You can't tear this with your hands! It comes in 48" wide rolls containing 500 or 1000 sq. ft. per roll. The aluminum foil is laminated with a poly-woven fabric center for extra strength and durability. This product is maximum strength radiant barrier. It does not tear and is well suited for holding staples in all positions. It is available as either Perforated or Non-Perforated and is double sided for maximum savings in both summer and winter. * Standard Size: 48" wide by 125 or 250 feet * Double Sided Radiant Barrier * Contains 99% pure Aluminum * Emissivity: 0.03 (ASTM C1371-98) * Reflectivity: 97% (ASTM C1371-98) * Class A / Class 1 Fire Rating * Flame Spread: 10 (ASTM E84) * Smoke Development: 10 (ASTM E84) * Clean and Non-Toxic, Resist Mildew * Emittance value of .03 (Blocks 97% of Radiant Heat) * Water Vapor Permeability (RB-Ind): 70 g/mē/24hr * Water Vapor Permeability (RB-VB): 0.02 perms * Tensile Strength (Machine Direction):80.4 lb/in * Tensile Strength (Cross Direction):65.4 lb/in * Mullen Burst Strength: 160 psi All attic installations should use the Perforated type radiant barrier. The perforations in this material are tiny holes made by laser that allow the material to breath. Never put a solid (non-perforated) material on top of or on the outside of existing insulation. This arrangement would trap moisture from inside your house in the insulation, degrading its performance and possibly causing mold. If you intend to use radiant barrier as a housewrap, you need to use the perforated type and tape the seams. Non-Perforated Radiant Barrier This industrial grade radiant barrier has an excellent fire rating. Compare the Specifications, and remember that lower numbers are better.
