Q: Is this basically the same insulation you would get if you purchased an insulated garage door? A: What we can fairly say about our kits is that the quality is better of the one that comes with some insulated doors. To start with, our “R value” (the efficiency of insulation) is 5 when the one that comes with insulated doors – and recommended by the US government – is usually 4. This means that the kits will make a better job at insulating your home. Also, the quality and durability of our High-Impact, Washable Plastic Skin is more resistant to impact. Finally, they just look great!! Please e-mail us for some “before and after” pictures (support@paalz.com). Q: Also, once installed, can you still open the garage door? A: Yes. The kits get into the panels so it does not affect the door operation. Q: Does it change anything on the garage door? A: Yes. The doors will look great and will make less noise. Also, the kits add about 8 to 9 pounds of weight to your doors. In our experience that is not a problem for automatic garage door openers – we have tested standard ½ HP openers. ½ HP openers are design to pull heavier wood and glass doors. In any case, we strongly recommend you to check the manual of your garage door opener. Q: The garage door company that sold us our garage door is saying that the insulation is not the same if we went with a DIY kit. A: They are right: our DIY kits are not the same thing. Our kits have a higher R value (the efficiency of insulation), they are more resistant to impact and its price is lower. Also our kits are the #1 recommended by the Garage Door Manufacturers of America. |
