Question: How does this work?
I have been in the flooring industry for almost 10 years as an installer using this stretcher daily.
The span between the head and the tail is 17 inches when the arm is pulled up and 18 ¾ inches when the arm is pushed down. Therefore at every stroke the stretcher expands 1 ¾ inches. Which means, you are stretching the carpet 7/8 of an inch (half of 1 ¾) to the front. You cannot do that with a regular knee kicker (in one kick), especially when stretching a heavier type of carpet.
I easily stretch rooms as large as 30 ft. The initial stretch is between the head and the tail but once you pull the arm back up it adjusts the rest of the carpet that is behind you and the stretcher. You then move approximately 1 foot over and continue like you would with a regular carpet kicker until the area is fully stretched.
